An evidence-based, engaging therapeutic modality that improves cognitive and motor skills. This technology is perfect for patients young and old. Using beats to stimulate auditory pathways within the brain, and visual stimuli for the participant to focus on and interact with, IM addresses critical brain timing skills. Our goal is to improve outcomes in the areas of cognitive, communicative, motor, sensory and academic performance in conditions like ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Stroke, and TBI.

With Interactive Metronome, you have the power to achieveall these goals and more:

Neuro-optometric rehabilitation is an individualized treatment regimen for patients with visual deficits as a direct result of physical disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, cerebrovascular accident, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis or other neurological insults. This method is used to improve cognitive and motor function by stimulating neurological pathways in the brain which may not be working to the same capacity as others. This is accomplished through a physical therapy for the eyes, which are direct pathways to the brain.
Vision plays a significant role in our ability to balance, orient ourselves in space, and process movement of things in our environment. Dr. Thomas performs various tests to determine neurological pathways which are weak and then creates your personalized rehabilitation program designed to engage those specific pathways. Therefore, no two patients’ treatments are the same!

What conditions are improved by neuro-optometric rehabilitation?
  • Accommodative Dysfunction
  • Binocular Vision Dysfunction/Strabismus
  • Convergence Insufficiency
  • Cranial Nerve Palsy Involving the Eye
  • Nystagmus
  • Ocular Motor Dysfunction
  • Post Traumatic Vision Syndrome
  • Spatial Disorientation

Using a touchscreen, the NSI offers a host of therapy procedures to a wide range of patients requiring visual or neuro therapy.

NSI treatment may be utilized for the following conditions:
  • Accelerated or decelerated closed head injury
  • Strokes and cerebrovascular accidents
  • Concussions
  • Whiplash injuries or motor vehicle accidents
  • Neurological disorders
  • Balance disorders
  • Upper extremity or spinal cord injury.

Functional Medicine

Functional Medicine
Functional medicine is the practice of analyzing blood work using functional lab ranges that focus on optimal functioning of the body and its organs. Dr. Lexie spends time with her patients to listen thoroughly to their histories all while better understanding the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health. The recommendations are based on the individual and their unique presentation. Often people say, “My tests are negative, but I know something isn’t right.” Functional medicine is the step to understand which parts of the body aren’t functioning at a capacity to predict or prevent pathology rather than identifying it. This is done through diet logs, lifestyle counseling, nutritional changes, and various natural supplements prescribed in meaningful courses focused on providing the body what it needs. Our bodies are intelligent - we are simply providing it with all the tools, so it can function at the optimal level.

Clinical Nutrition
Clinical nutrition is the practice of analyzing if a person is consuming an adequate amount of nutrients for good health. A clinical nutritionist is concerned with how nutrients in food are processed, stored and discarded by your body, along with how what you eat affects your overall well-being. Professionals in this field assess your nutritional needs based on your family and medical history, lifestyle and laboratory tests in order to make recommendations on your diet and individual nutritional needs. A clinical nutritionist may provide advice on changes to your diet that may help prevent disease.

Natural Medicine
Natural medicine is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal. health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage individuals' inherent self-healing. process. This is accomplished through the use of diet analysis, lifestyle counseling, herbal supplements, essential oils, and other natural therapeutic techniques. Naturopathic treatments are suitable for everyone, all ages and every level of health. Most commonly, patients who are suffering from fatigue, stress and related disorders, gastrointestinal diseases, autoimmune conditions, or similar ailments. Some of the draws to natural medicine include an emphasis on patients as a whole, the principles, and ideologies of naturopathy focus on the entire body for healing; emotional, mental and physical health are all taken into consideration. Patients are offered personal attention, unlike when visiting a doctors clinic where patients will only discuss their symptoms, naturopathic practitioners will consult their patient on multiple aspects of their health due to tailor a custom treatment plan.

Lab Testing
There are two main types of ranges in the field of blood chemistry analysis: a pathological range and a functional range. The pathological range is used to diagnose disease; the functional range is used to assess risk for disease before the disease develops. The references that are provided with laboratory test results are referred to as “the pathological range,” because if the test results are out of range, it usually indicates potential for pathology or disease. The main different between the functional range and the pathological range is the degree of deviation allowed within their normal ranges. For example the functional range for glucose may be 85 – 100 mg/dl, but the pathological range may be 65-110 mg/dl. Levels about the pathological range may indicate diabetes. Levels above the functional range, but before they reach the extremes of the pathological range, may indicate insulin resistance and future risk for developing diabetes. Most health care providers believe that care should only be provided when disease is present. This view is generally formed from conventional medical training which ignores the philosophies of preventative medicine and nutrition. Traditional medical training teaches physicians to evaluate blood chemistry in comparison to ranges that determine pathology.

Lifestyle Counselling
Functional Medicine physicians take into account all aspects of your life and health in formulating a treatment plan for you or your child. Lifestyle counseling covers a wide array of topics from ergonomics at work, environmental toxin exposure, stressors, emotional health, physical activity, and more. Dr. Lexie takes time to listen to her patients and truly understand all factors that contribute to their health. This is based on the philosophy of treating each patient as a whole and address the full body to obtain optimal health.

Common Conditions
Functional Medicine delves even deeper into the root causes of the illness. We go beyond traditional medicine to provide ongoing care to meet a patient’s changing needs. Functional Medicine includes diet and lifestyle modifications, nutritional supplementation and health coaching, allowing our patients to alter the course of their chronic diseases towards renewed vitality and longevity. By contrast to the traditional model, Functional Medicine treats the patient as a whole rather than a set of symptoms. This patient-centered model for holistic medicine creates a partnership between the patient and the physician. By listening to the patient and learning his or her story, the physician can create personalized therapeutic strategies.
